Wanted: Young Adults to be Umpires for Minor League games
by posted 03/04/2010

Every year, our Minor League games are umpired by adults/coaches and by your adults ages 12 and older.

Just before the season starts, our Umpire-In-Chief, Doug Viger, will hold a short clinic/class for all those interested in umpiring for the upcoming season.  All young adults should attenc this clinic/class.

If you have a child who will be League Age 12 or older (born before May 1, 1998)  who would like to umpire this season, please send an email to
to be put on the list.  When the clinic/class is scheduled, all on the email list will be notified.

This year, besides the "Thank You" hotdog/pizza and beverage that the umpires get at the conclusion of the game, there will also be incentive/bonuses awarded after the completion of a certain number of games (that number to be determined).

Each Minor League game is approximately 2 hours long.  The time spent umpiring may also be used towards the PHS Community Hours required for graduation.

If you have any questions, please email
 for more information.

New Bat Size Regulation for Babe Ruth
by Pelham Baseball Inc posted 02/16/2010

TO:

League Presidents, Commissioners and National Umpire Association Members
FROM:

Steven M. Tellefsen, President/CEO

RE:   New Bat Regulation

As you are aware, the International Board of Directors of Babe Ruth League, Inc. approved a new bat regulation for the 13-15 Division beginning with the 2010 season for local league and tournament play.  This regulation limits the diameter of the bat barrel to 2 5/8”.  There is no length to weight ratio requirement (i.e. no drop).

This is the direction most amateur baseball programs are taking.  High School Baseball organizations have already implemented the 2 5/8” -3 rule.  As such, bat manufacturers will be concentrating on producing bats that fall within this dimension for the 13-15 age groups.

We at home plate do realize the costs involved in participating in youth sports and how much of a challenge it is to outfit your children with the best equipment possible, especially during this difficult economic climate.  Therefore, for 2010, we will allow the use of bats with a 2 ¾” barrel size for 13-15 local league play only.  Bats with a 2 5/8” dimension will be the only approved bat for use during 13-15 District, State and Regional Tournaments, as well as during the World Series.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding with this issue, as well as for the time you invest for the benefit of our young athletes.
